Training Resources Development

The Training Resources Development Section develops and sustains a variety of training products. Each training product is based on an established requirement and is designed and developed using the instructional system design process to meet the client's training needs. Various training and training-related materials are designed and developed including:

Handbooks, Manuals, Guides

First Look Aircraft Systems Handbook (FLASH) - Designed as a source of general introductory information, this handbook focuses on the general aircraft, various aircraft systems and power plant, and avionics systems.

Command Aircraft Systems Training (CAST) - CAST provides self-paced aircraft familiarization-level training for aircraft maintenance personnel. Each aircraft system is covered in sufficient detail to familiarize maintenance staff with system description, operation, and controls, along with component function, operation, and location.

G081 User's Manual & Desktop Reference Guide - Designed and developed for each of the 14 functional areas of the G081 system, these books serve as the principal G081 training tool and are the central focal point of other G081 training.

Flightline Safety Study Guide - This manual functions as a quick reference for flightline safety as well as a training aid for aircraft maintenance personnel. Non-maintenance procedures are also included for individuals who may be exposed to potential safety hazards generated by the maintenance activity.

Aerospace Ground Equipment Operator Certification Guides - These guides are designed and developed to support the program of certifying maintenance personnel to operate the various types of ground equipment. The guides provide those responsible for certifying operators with structured, standardized guidance for certification.

Continuity Guides - Designed to provide continuity for personnel assigned to a new duty position. The guides provide an overview of the specific duty position and identify the roles and responsibilities of the individual. They also provide step-by-step procedures for performing each major task with examples of how the tasks are performed.

Data Automation Tools

SwRI automates time-consuming, manual, or repetitive tasks into standardized, repeatable processes to create, maintain, and validate data. In conjunction with a requirements analysis, current business processes and tasks are analyzed for inefficiencies. Once the analysis is complete, SwRI designs and develops customized data management tools. By implementing a system tailored to program requirements, a more precise and timely accounting of information and trends can be accomplished to more effectively manage resources.

Technology-Based Training

Utilizing multimedia, SwRI provides comprehensive technology-based training services that effectively fuse:

  • Instructional design
  • Multimedia environment
  • Client-specific information
  • Flexible, standards-based delivery systems

Whether computer-based training, web-based training, or a blended solution is chosen, SwRI provides customized content, with a look and feel appropriate to the target audience. We develop training from needs analysis to finished product, or convert existing paper-based or classroom training into a computer- or web-based product.

Training Aids

Training aids provide effective tools for use during instruction. SwRI develops a wide range of training aids using state-of-the-art tools and technologies matching the best-fit approach to meet client's needs. SwRI has done extensive research and development resulting in a range of products, including wall charts of hydraulic and fuel system drawings, interactive computer-based hydraulic systems, interactive computer-based On Board Inerting Gas Generating Systems (OBIGGS), as well as paper-based on-the-job training handbooks. SwRI excels at providing leading edge visual displays.

Utilization and Training Workshop Support

The Air Force Utilization and Training Workshop process is the forum to manage career field education and training requirements as Air Force mission and technology evolve. SwRI developed a process to better prepare MAJCOM functional managers for the Utilization and Training Workshop. It included developing a database to collect, sort, and validate field unit inputs, preparing and publishing a CFETP field input report, and consolidating MAJCOM recommendations into a Strawman CFETP.

Training for Deliberate and Crisis Action Planners

SwRI staff are well versed and qualified in the areas of deliberate and crisis planning. Our planners are experienced in the movement of personnel and equipment to all corners of the globe. In times of peace, war, or natural disaster, solid planning and immediate action are the hallmarks of our planners. With primary experience in the logistics field, SwRI experts understand the effort required to ensure accurate and timely movement of both personnel and equipment assets and effectively train personnel in the concepts and procedures required to ensure success.
